Calling all Japanese culture lovers aching for the chance to watch Japanese performing arts groups, learn about Japanese arts and crafts, stock up on adorable Japanese stationery and gifts, and enjoy delicious Japanese food. Japan Matsuri 2016 is just around the corner. This year Japan Matsuri will be held in celebration of 125 years of the Japan Society – an organization which strives to promote friendship and understanding between the UK and Japan.
What is it?
Japan Matsuri is a festival held once a year in Trafalgar Square; it gives the local Japanese community (consisting of Japanese expats, students of the Japanese language, employees in Japanese companies and anybody else interested in Japanese culture) the chance to share aspects of Japanese culture with their family and friends.
You can expect to find an enormous variety of activities, performances and attractions. Look forward to a variety of exciting centre stage live performances like Taiko Drumming, Noh Ballet and Piano, as well as J-Culture Fashion and Performances. For Japanese food lovers, there will be ample opportunities to stop by the Japan Centre stalls, where we will be offering tasty noodle dishes, takoyaki, yakitori chicken skewers, gyoza dumplings, refreshing soft drinks, matcha ice cream and more. Furthermore, this year, Shoryu Ramen & Ichiryu Udon will also have their own stalls where you can expect to find their delicious & freshly made noodle dishes. The Japan Centre Kyoto Fair, launching 25 September, will also have a stand at this year’s matsuri – pop by for exclusive artisan items.
When is it?
Come on down to Trafalgar Square between 10am and 8pm on Sunday 25 September. For more information, visit the Japan Matsuri website.
