I can’t actually decide what’s going to be the best thing!
I went last year and got some beautiful tableware, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they have to offer. The fashion stalls and shows are always great too, though I could never wear what they do it’s lovely to see the effort that people put in. The sake awards sound great too and I might see if I can get in on that. Never pass up an opportunity for sake!

Also, getting the chance to do all this with a load of friends just makes it even better :-D

I am sure the most awesome-tastic event at Hyper Japan 2012 would be the Natsuko Aso Live!

Too many things to choose from really, but I would go with the special guests Satoshi Miki and Eri Fuse, because where else would you see them but hyper japan 2012!

  6. February 1, 2012 at 5:01 pm #

I think that the most awesome thing about hyper Japan in 2012, will be the opportunity to explore what’s new in Japanese pop culture. There’s a hell lot more to it than Dragon Ball Z, Sailormoon and Harajuku fashion – Japanese pop culture is still evolving, and for those curious about it, this will be the perfect chance to keep up to date with what’s in and even what’s out!

Definitely the Sake Awards 2012: Top Brewery Taste-Off. It’s fairly easy to visit restaurants and gradually build up an understanding of Japanese cuisine. But developing a good understanding of sake, being able to compare varieties, is far too hard, and way too expensive to do by one’s self!

  14. February 1, 2012 at 7:41 pm #

Its the chance to indulge in all things Japan for those who can’t visit the place itself!

Going to see the sushi 2012 awards and then quickly following that up with the sake 2012 awards to wash all that delicious sushi down :)

  22. February 2, 2012 at 9:49 am #

The cosplay is for me the most fascinating aspect of hyper japan, seeing how people interpret their own style. But the food, drink and all of the fascinating stuff on the floor also play a big part, the rest of the events are icing.

It’s hard to choose the awesomest part. I’m really looking forward to seeing all the beautiful Japanese clothes, tableware and art prints. But most importantly, the food! The Sushi Roll Championship sound intriguing!

The sake awards and taste off!

  25. February 2, 2012 at 10:57 am #

I have always loved everything about Japan, so choosing just one thing that I think will be the most awesome about hyper japan is such a hard thing to do.
The food will be amazing like always, and I think it will be interesting to try the different sakes.
I just love japanese music, so seeing Natsuko Aso will be awesome!
And as DarkAngel said, where else will you get the chance to meet Satoshi Miki and Eri Fuse but hyper japan.
But you can’t forget the people who are always amazing (anyone who loves Japan is amazing to me!).
I really cannot decide what will be the most awesome-tastic thing at hyper japan, so I will say EVERYTHING!

Third Window Films Showcase with Satoshi Miki and Eri Fuse – I think this will be most interesting!!

  48. February 2, 2012 at 10:19 pm #

The most awesome event of all will be the people! So many people gathered together to share their love of Japan with other Japanese folks, along with other non-Japanese. The fact that all these people made the time and effort to go and share their love with others is an event that’s fun, and everyone can join!

I have never been, and only heard of Hyper last year, so I think others here have a better insight, and so I wish you the best of luck x

MY personal most awesome-tastic event would be seeing the look on my 9yo daughter’s face as she saw her beloved sushi being made to compitition level (but never as good as her Dad’s) & being @urrounded should I go

What I look forward to most is EVERYTHING! I can’t afford to go to Japan, but my older sister has a friend there and I get sent small gifts from here now and then (in return for English things that she can’t get in Japan!) It is wonderful to get sent a tiny insight into a wonderful magical culture now and then, but its so totally different from being immersed in it. And that’s why I am looking forward to Hyper Japan! It won’t be like walking down a street in Shibuya, Tokyo! Or hiking through mountain ranges with hot springs and macaques! But it will be closer to what I imagine Japan to be like than getting sent good luck charms for my exams! (Thank you Grace Kishino – They worked!) And if its something different to what I thought Japanese culture to be like, then I have learned something new. And that makes me happy. To aquire new knowledge!

Some GOOD sushi will be exciting too! You can’t get good sushi in Sheffield where I go to University! I remember when I went to primary school in Soho (London) not far from Japan Centre, my dad would occasionally take me there after school to try all these “crazy” foods! It was wonderful for both of us as I’d never had anything like it before, and neither had he for he is from Poland! I cant wait to try some AMAZING food and feel as if I am back eating sushi as a 7 year old again!

  65. February 13, 2012 at 11:40 am #

I look forward to spending some time pretending I’m back in one of my favourite countries in the world. :)
